Debra Daugherty is a children’s book author from central Illinois, and a member of SCBWI, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. For the last six years, she has been SCBWI-Illinois’ Network Representative for the Springfield Area. Her publishing credits include Calamity Cat (MeeGenius,/HMH, 2013), The Dragon’s Ring (Astra Press/Clean Reads, 2016), The Memory Jar (Roan & Weatherford Publishing Associates, LLC/Young Dragons, 2023), Cows Can’t Be Clowns (Harbor Lane Books, 2024) and two children’s stories in Guardian Angel Kids ezine. Coming soon, Grandpa’s Barn (Roan & Weatherford Publishing Associates LLC/Young Dragons). Debra began writing children’s stories for her nieces and nephews when they were young and never stopped. Now their children read her books. She loves bringing joy to children with her stories. She loves their excitement and enthusiasm when they’re hearing a story for the first time. And she loves their questions after a school visit. No matter how much she prepares, there are always questions that surprise her, astonish her, and make her laugh. When not writing or reading, Debra enjoys exploring flea markets, visiting local museums and historical sights, and playing ball with her pup nephew Elmer, her brother’s dachshund, when they visit from Texas.
