I find writing an exercise in self-discipline and the perfect follow-up to life as an adoptive parent and cancer survivor. My YA fiction, Pull, was named to YALSA’s Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Readers, nominated for the Eliot Rosewater Indiana High School Book Award and for a 2013 Cybils Award. My nonfiction biography of Dr. James B Williams, Tuskegee Airman, Surgeon and Activist, won awards from the Society of Midland Authors and the International Literacy Association. I am a member of the American Library Association and of SCBWI, and give workshops at schools, libraries, and conferences.
